Download & Local Ollama Engine
Tech AI monkey runs 100% independently on its own local Ollama brain — no OpenAI or DeepSeek dependency, and automatic continuous API-key rotation so the agent never stops. Below you can download Ollama (the local AI engine) and the Tech AI monkey CLI app.
1. Download Ollama (Local AI Engine — replaces OpenAI / DeepSeek)
Instead of relying on external providers like OpenAI or DeepSeek whose API keys can expire or stop working, Tech AI monkey uses Ollama to run the AI model (tech-ai-monkey / llama3.1:8b) directly on the server. The built-in supervisor automatically rotates and renews the local API token every 10 minutes (sk-ollama-live-…) and self-heals the connection so the agent never stops.

macOS
Apple Silicon (M1–M4) & Intel macOS 12+
Download Ollama for macOS# Unzip, move to Applications, then: ollama pull llama3.1:8b ollama run llama3.1:8b
2. Download the Tech AI monkey CLI app
The Tech AI monkey command-line app talks directly to our Ollama-powered agent. Sign in once, then ask from any terminal.

What you can install it on
The Linux and Windows downloads are self-contained — the runtime is bundled, so you do not need to install Node.js, Python or anything else first. 64-bit systems only.
Linux — .deb
- Architecture: 64-bit x86 (amd64 / x86-64)
- Ubuntu: 20.04 LTS and newer — 22.04, 24.04, 26.04 — desktop and server
- Debian: 11 (bullseye) and newer — 12, 13
- Also works on: Linux Mint 20+, Pop!_OS 20.04+, Zorin OS 16+, elementary OS 6+, Kali 2021+, MX Linux 21+, Devuan 4+ and Parrot OS
- Requires: libc6 2.17 or newer — a bare minimum, so the package also installs on older releases such as Debian 10 and Ubuntu 18.04, even though we only test on the versions listed above
- Menu entry: on a desktop install you also get “Tech AI monkey” in the application menu, which opens a terminal running tech-ai chat
- Not supported: 32-bit (i386), ARM64 / Raspberry Pi, Alpine and other musl-based distros, and RPM distros such as Fedora, RHEL and openSUSE
sudo dpkg -i tech-ai_<version>_amd64.deb sudo apt-get install -f # only if dpkg reports a missing dependency sudo apt-get remove tech-ai # uninstall
Windows — .exe
- Architecture: 64-bit x86 (x64)
- Windows: Windows 10 (all 64-bit editions) and Windows 11
- Server: Windows Server 2019 and newer
- Installer: no admin rights needed. It installs into your own user folder, adds “Tech AI monkey” to the Start menu with the app icon, optionally a desktop shortcut, puts
tech-aion your PATH, and registers an uninstaller under Apps & features - Portable: the single .exe runs anywhere with no installation — but then there is no Start-menu entry, and the file carries the default Windows icon rather than the app icon
- Not supported: 32-bit Windows, Windows on ARM (ARM64), Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1
# Windows may show "Windows protected your PC": # More info -> Run anyway # (the file is not code-signed yet) # to uninstall, just delete the .exe
macOS — .dmg
- Architecture: Universal build for Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3 and M4)
- macOS: Sequoia 15.7.9 and newer
- Install: open the downloaded DMG in Finder and follow the instructions inside
Servers without a desktop
tech-ai login opens a browser, so on a headless server sign in with an API key or with e-mail + password instead. Both work fine over SSH:
tech-ai login --key tai_… # key from Dashboard → API keys tech-ai login --email [email protected] --password '…'
Three ways to sign in
tech-ai login # opens your browser — Google or e-mail tech-ai login --email [email protected] --password '…' tech-ai login --key tai_… # key from Dashboard → API keys
The token is stored locally in ~/.config/tech-ai/credentials.json with file mode 600. Revoke it any time under Dashboard → API keys.
What you can do
tech-ai ask "why does my Next.js build fail?" tech-ai ask --session <id> "follow up in the same conversation" tech-ai chat # interactive session, /exit to quit tech-ai whoami # account + how many tokens are left
Use it inside VS Code
The same account also works as a model in the VS Code chat picker: add it as a Custom Endpoint with an API key and it shows up next to the Copilot models. No Copilot plan required for that. The VS Code guide has the three-step setup and a configuration block you can paste straight in.
Verify the download
Compare the SHA-256 shown above with the file you received, or check checksums.txt:
sha256sum tech-ai_<version>_amd64.deb # Linux certutil -hashfile tech-ai_<version>_windows_x64.exe SHA256 # Windows shasum -a 256 tech-ai_2.0.0_macos_universal.dmg # macOS
Building it yourself
The CLI is plain Node.js with zero dependencies and lives in cli/. Build the installers with bash scripts/build-cli.sh, or run it straight from source:
node cli/src/index.js help
